Historic New Yam Celebration as Elder Josiah Anisiobi Leads Umuonumonu Ward 12

Elder Josiah Anisiobi (Nwachinemere), the oldest man in Umuonumonu Ward 12, hosted the community's 2026 New Yam Festival celebration at his compound. The celebration followed Ikpobata Uno, held the previous day.

His wife, Mrs J. N. Anisiobi, welcomed honoured guests. Ceremonial activities included the breaking of kolanut and the ceremonial cutting of the new yam.

Umuonumonu Ward 12 paid homage. Other groups documented by LNA paying homage or taking part were Umunwanyi Umuonumonu, Umuezeisi Umudioka Umuohi Okija, the Ifeadigo Age Grade led by Chief Nonso Ugochukwu, Udoka Age Grade and Otu Nwe Obodo.

Editorial correction: an earlier LNA report described Elder Josiah Anisiobi as Okpara Umuonumonu. High Chief James Uchendu (Odojiriomee) holds that title; Elder Anisiobi is the oldest man in Umuonumonu Ward 12.
